FOS for Gut Health, Immunity & Performance

Advanced Prebiotic Solution

Natural Prebiotic Feed Additive for Poultry, Aquaculture, Swine & Cattle

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are natural prebiotic fibers that promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria in humans, poultry, and aquaculture species. They improve digestion, enhance nutrient absorption, and strengthen immunity while helping reduce harmful microbes. Commonly used in functional foods, dairy products, and health drinks, FOS support overall gut health. In broilers, layers, fish, and shrimp, they improve growth performance, feed efficiency, and sustainable productivity.

What is FOS?

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) are natural prebiotics that selectively feed beneficial gut bacteria, improving digestion, immunity & nutrient absorption.

Fructo-Oligosaccharides (FOS) are high-performance prebiotic fibers derived from sucrose through enzymatic conversion. They selectively promote beneficial gut bacteria, improving digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall health in animals and humans.

FOS Product

Performance Benefits

  • Improved Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)
  • Higher survival in aquaculture species
  • Enhanced weight gain in broilers & pigs
  • Increased milk yield in dairy cattle
  • Stronger immunity & gut health
  • Reduced stress and better performance

Temparature and pH stability of FOS

Neutral to slightly acidic (pH 4-7): FOS are quite stable, withstanding temperatures up to 1200 C for a significant time.

Species-Specific Applications

FOS Product

Aquaculture (Shrimp, Prawns and Fish)

  • Promotes beneficial gut bacteria: FOS acts as a food source for beneficial bacteria in the shrimp's intestine, helping to balance the gut microbiota.
  • Boosts immune response: It can enhance the shrimp's immune system by stimulating enzymes like lysozyme, phenol oxidase, and superoxide dismutase.
  • Improves growth: FOS can lead to better growth performance, as seen with optimal inclusion levels stimulating growth and improving the condition of the hepatopancreas.
  • Increases disease resistance: By improving gut health and boosting immunity, FOS can increase the shrimp's resistance to pathogens, reducing mortality rates.
  • Enhances nutrient utilization: FOS can improve the absorption of nutrients by promoting a healthier gut environment.
Dosage:
  • 2–5 mL/kg routine dosage Dry Feed: 2-5 mL/kg (routine dosage)
  • Dry Feed: 5-8 mL/kg (stress period - handling, sorting, grading, transport, heat and cold shock, molting, pathogen and, when disease signs observed)

Poultry Farming

  • Growth and performance: FOS supplementation can lead to better body weight gain, improved feed conversion ratios, and higher carcass yield in broilers.
  • Gut health: It enhances intestinal health by improving the structure of the intestinal mucosa, increasing beneficial bacteria, and reducing the population of harmful bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli.
  • Immune response: FOS strengthens both innate and acquired immune responses by promoting beneficial microbes and can increase the levels of immune-related proteins like immunoglobulins and complement proteins.
  • Egg quality: In laying hens, FOS can improve egg quality by increasing shell thickness, albumen height, and Haugh unit scores.
  • Antibiotic alternative: FOS can be used as a non-antibiotic growth promoter to improve bird health and performance, making it a valuable tool for modern poultry production.
  • Nutrient absorption: It can improve the digestibility of amino acids, leading to better nutrient utilization by the birds.
Dosage:
  • Dry Feed: 0.5-1 mL/kg (or)
  • Drinking Water: 1-2 mL/L (routine dosage)
  • Drinking Water: 2-3 mL/L (stress condition - vaccination, disease recovery and heat stress)

Cattle Farming

FOS is used in cattle, especially dairy calves, to improve gut health and growth efficiency.

  • Enhances gut microbiome maturation: In young dairy calves, FOS promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterium, which hastens the development of a healthy and stable gut microbiome.
  • Improves nutrient absorption: The fermentation of FOS by gut microbes increases the production of SCFAs, such as acetate and propionate. Higher SCFA levels can lead to better nutrient absorption and improved growth performance in calves.
  • Maintains gut stability: When calves are fed FOS, their microbiome is more stable, with a higher probability of sustaining mature community types. A stable gut environment is associated with better health and efficiency.
  • May reduce methane emissions: Research on sheep has indicated that certain doses of FOS can reduce methane production during rumen fermentation. However, the effect is dose-dependent, and more research is needed on cattle.
Dosage:
  • Dry Feed: 0.5-1 mL/kg (or)
  • Liquid Feed 5-6 mL/L
